Carpenters Cottage is a classic example of a period North Norfolk workers cottage located close to the centre of the Georgian town of Holt. The row of cottages dates back to approximately 1750, Carpenters has enjoyed a number of renovations the most recent in 2001 to provide high quality holiday accommodation.
It is believed that the Cottages and the Public House were named “Carpenters” after the artisan tradesmen who worked in the part of the town that was known to be close to the woodland area of Holt and therefore considered to be the residential area for woodworkers and carpenters.
The basic construction of the cottage is traditional Norfolk flint; the walls are approximately 18 inches thick. This method of construction provides excellent insulation for both cooling and heating. Today the cottage enjoys the benefit of central heating and a gas boiler providing hot water. |
